Sean Kingston's Party

By rsilver on August 9, 2012

Sean Kingston will be releasing a new album sometime between September and December titled Back 2 Life (also a song with TI), symbolizing his near death experience. Sean Kingston has dropped off the map for almost two years; as a result he said of a Jet Ski accident that occurred in Miami in May of 2011. This tragic accident resulted in his heart failing and having open heart surgery.  After such a life altering experience he re-evaluated what was important to him and wanted to re-evaluate his sound. He said he did not just want another pop song but something that he had a personal connection with. The main thing he expressed was how important originality is (“build your own brand”) if someone wants to make it in the music business and that originality is a key value that he wants to portray.

Sean Kingston went on to answer some random questions, such as how many tattoos he has (he did not remember), and what they mean (one arm is for spiritual heroes-MJ, Jesus, and Bob Marley; and one arm is for things he finds playful-Mario). My good friend, whowon these tickets, asked him who his favorite person he has worked with was and Kingston’s response was Wiz Khalifa, Busta Rhymes, or Justin Bieber; but more towards Wiz Khalifa stating he is very “humble and spiritual”.

Someone, of course, asked what advice he had for someone that wanted to make it in the music business. Kingston said to save up money and buy a camera. He went on to describe the miseries of mowing enormous lawns to earn money for a video camera so that he could finally upload videos onto YouTube. To be discovered on Myspace and get to the level of fame he has achieved at only twenty-one is rather miraculous.

His new album features T-Pain, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Flo-Rida, Soulja Boy, Wyclef Jean, Akon, Dr. Dre, and Justin Beiber. He would like to shoot one of the music videos modeled after the movie Project X or with crowd surfing. Overall, all the songs have a very upbeat sound containing a variety of loud instruments and catchy melodies. Now that he is not mowing lawns anymore, he likes to collect watches  and owns thirteen. Yet, he still does activism for dogs and promotes youth volunteering.

After answering questions, the audience listened to samples of previously unheard songs from his new album. Then each person received a signed picture of him, and went up for a one-on-one picture with him. Living between Miami and Jamaica means that he has enjoyed a number of different influences throughout life and will continue to try to create original sounds.

Will I buy the new album? I probably won’t, because I do not buy albums. Will I happily dance to it? Of course as it is very catchy. Thanks to 93.3 I was able to get an inside look into Sean Kingston’s new work, that I am sure I will hear more of.
